Star Trek springs amateur series

In reading some news about the uncertain future of Star Trek Enterprise, which could eventually get picked up by another network, I found that quite a few groups of people have been making amateur Star Trek episodes that they are distributing on the web. Most are a bit funny to look at, but they’re still enjoyable to see what people with a passion can do. Check out these sites:

  • Star Trek: Hidden Frontier: Already in its sixth season with six to nine episodes per season. The time line is around the time of Star Trek Voyager.
  • Star Trek: New Voyages: This series has produced two episodes that focus on the continuation of Captain Kirk’s adventures after the end of the three TV series.
  • Star Trek: The section 31 files: Audio adventures of members of Section 31.
  • Starship Exeter: Also set in the Kirk era but focusing on a different crew. A first episode has been released with two on the way.

If you’re a Star Trek fan, you’ll probably find some of these a lot of fun to watch.

Star Trek: Enterprise cancelled

The latest incarnation of the Star Trek franchise, Star Trek: Enterprise, has just been cancelled by the UPN network. Althrough the third season was a bit of a drag, season 4 had some great story lines and kept my interest up from week to week. It’s a real shame that UPN decided to cancel it. There is still a campaign going on at SaveEnterprise.com to try to get the show back on another network. Check it out to participate in the efforts to try to get the show back on the air.

Stargate keeps going

For a while, everyone was saying that season 8 of Stargate SG-1 was going to be the last one. However, I just learned today that both SG-1 and its spin-off series Stargate:Atlantis have been renewed for next year. Personnally, I have gotten much more attached to Atlantis since I have seen all episodes as opposed to SG-1 where I’ve not even seen a quarter. The beginning of Atlantis was a bit slow but the second half of the season was explosive and the characters keep getting more attaching.

As well, I just saw that a video game is being made set in the Stargate universe. It is a first-person game (probably a shooter) and will be called Stargate SG-1: The Alliance.

Enterprise takes a look into the past

The science-fiction television series Enterprise has been getting very good during this fourth season. After season 3 where all of the episodes were focused on the war against the Zindi, the series went back to a variety of cool topics. One episode that is currently being prepared for the second half of season 4 is an alternate universe story where we’ll see a ship very reminescent of the old Enterprise from the original series. Check out these cool pics on TrekToday.com.

Disappointment in Father of the Bride

One of the new TV shows that looked interesting this fall was Father of the Bride, a computer-animated sitcom starring the animals that Siegfried and Roy use for their Las Vegas shows. The lead character, Larry the lion, is voiced by John Goodman. The animation is superb, but the humor is questionable. Quite a few gags are for a very mature public and others are plain stupid, making you wonder if they were written by a grade-school student. Too bad. We could have used a good new animated sitcom.

Star Trek: Enterprise Renewed

Enterprise has been renewed by UPN for a fourth season! This is good news. We’ll get to see what happens after the whole battle with the Xindi. The show has become quite interesting in this last season and it would have been quite a shame to loose it.

Tripping the Rift

There’s a new animated comedy in town. Scifi’s Tripping the Rift is based on a hilarious animated short film that went around the net a few years ago. The first season will include 13 episodes, playing every Thursday on the Sci-Fi network. For us Canadians, the series is supposed to air on Space starting in April. If you’re really desperate, there’s always BitTorrent.

Dark Angel Lives On!

Dark Angel Lives On! Even though the series was cancelled after two seasons, and never saw an ending on TV, the series lives on. Two books have been published based on the show. The first one, Before the Dawn, is a prequel to the series, while Skin Game is a sequel, picking up where the series ended. Both of these are already out. A third novel is scheduled for a June release, called After the Dark.

As well, a Dark Angel video game was released for the Playstation 2 and XBox and the Complete First Season will be offered on DVD shortly.

The new series My Big Fat Greek Life will be starting on CBS on February 24th. Based on the movie, My Big Fat Greek Wedding, this new comedy should be a lot of fun.
