Movie Trailer for Robots and Batman Begins
A trailer has been released for the new computer-animated movie from Blue Sky Studios (Ice Age) called Robots, which I talked about a while back. As the title implies, this is a movie that talks about a world made up of robots. The trailer looks really good.
I also just saw the trailer for Batman Begins. I was a bit skeptical about this one after the many previous movies in the franchise that did not live up to the comic. However, this one seems to have hit very well on the dark side of the character.
Sin City: Another good-looking comic book adaptation
There is a pretty cool comic book adaptation coming soon to the big screen. Frank Miller’s Sin City will be a dark movie, just like the comic. The movie will also follow the visual style of the comic book with black and white images and just a bit of color some time to highlight some scenes. The cast includes Bruce Willis, Jessica Alba (Dark Angel) and many other well-known actors. It’s also pretty cool that Frank Miller who wrote and drew the comic book will co-direct this movie. Check out the preview at the link above.
Ridley Scott turns to medieval action
After the grand success of Gladiator set in the Roman era and Black Hawk Down set in modern times, director Ridley Scott now tackles a project set between these two periods, the medieval era. Kingdom of Heaven opens in May and has an all-star cast including David Thewlis, Liam Neeson, Jeremy Irons and Orlando Bloom. The trailer for it looks quite impressive.
Spider-Man 2
I just saw Spider-Man 2 over the week-end and thought it was a brilliant sequel to the first film. The balance between character development and action sequences was good. The Doctor Octopus character is very interesting and much deeper than I was expecting.
In terms of the main character, I thought that his attemps to have a “normal” life with his duties was a good story to follow. Many people have been telling me that they would have expected to see more of the conflict between Harry and Peter. However, in my opinion, having that conflict fully played out in this movie would have made it too heavy.
Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban
I just saw the new Harry Potter movie yesterday. I enjoyed it quite a bit, but I would be careful if you’re thinking of bringing kids there with you. The movie’s atmosphere is much darker than the first two movies, reflecting faithfully the tone of the book. I have not actually had the time to read the third book yet but plan on doing so soon now to enjoy all of the additional information that was not in the film.
Mission: Impossible 3
The third film in the Mission: Impossible franchise is currently in pre-production, to be released next summer during the usual blockbuster season. Aside from regulars Tom Cruise and Ving Rhames, Carrie Anne-Moss (Trinity in the Matrix) will be joining the cast. I am looking forward to this one already.
Update: Kenneth Branagh has also been added to the cast.
Pirates of the Carribean
I just went to see the new Disney movie yesterday, entitled Pirates of the Carribean. I was not too sure about the movie from the short trailer I had seen a few months but was quite nicely surprised by this movie. Johnny Depp gives a stellar performance as Captain Jack Sparrow. If you have not seen it yet, I would highly recommend it to you.
Blue Sky Studio
Following in Pixar’s steps, Blue Sky Studios, the division of 20th Century Fox responsible for the amazing movie Ice Age, has announced their new project entitled Robots. Not much is known about the project so far other than the fact that it will focus on a world inhabited only by robots and feature the voices of Ewan McGregor and Halle Berry.
Pixar Movies
My goodness, they just keep them coming. Along with the release of finding Nemo, Pixar animation studios has created a trailer for their next movie, scheduled for release in November 2004. Entitled The Incredibles, this movie is about a super-hero who’s getting a bit old for his job. The trailer looks pretty funny and the animation is really nice.
Kaena – La Prophetie
It is now the french’s turn to make a 3D full length movie. Kaena – La Prophetie will be released in early June in France. The animation looks quite impressive in the trailer. There does not seem to currently be an english release date but this will be one to look out for.
