TV Shows not getting their fair chance

When I find a television show that I enjoy, I typically watch it religiously week after week, season after season, to the very end of that series’ run. Now, in the past few years, I somehow always seem to be falling on shows that don’t make it through an entire first season or that get the axe prematurely.

First was Dark Angel on Fox a few years back. After getting really hooked on the show, I was completely surprise when it got cancelled after two seasons. The worse is that the creator of the show only learned of its cancellation after the last episode was shot. So there was no conclusion to the show on TV.

Another recent fatality was Journeyman in the 2007-2008 season. It ran for a half-season and was quite an enjoyable show. While the first few episodes were kind of the same thing over and over again, it got really interesting as they started to make story arcs that spanned multiple shows.

The most recent fatality was My Own Worst Enemy, which just got cancelled. Starring Christian Slater, MOWE was a nice action / sci-fi series with great pacing and a great distribution. While they had an order for 13 episodes, NBC decided to stop airing the show after 9 episodes!

In a time where my wife and I don’t have tons of time to watch TV shows, it is becoming increasing difficult to start watching new shows when you don’t know if that show will still be around a few months or even a few weeks down the road.

All hail the Prince!

As I posted a few months ago, I started playing the Prince of Persia: Sands of Time game on my new PC and really enjoyed the world that the wizards at Ubisoft Montreal had put together. Now that I have a PS3, I was easily swayed by the amazing graphics and interesting storyline of the new Prince of Persia game. Its visual style is quite a departure from the original trilogy. While some people are a bit turned off by this change, I quite enjoy it myself. Here is a quick snap of what it looks like:

Hats off to the Ubisoft Montreal team for putting this together. It is even nicer to know that one of my ex-colleagues, Jean-Luc Pedneault, worked on this. Thanks for the great entertainment.
