Captain Herlock

Fans of Captain Herlock (Albator in French) rejoice. A new 13-part OVA series that was released in Japan through the end of 2002 and early 2003 is coming to DVD in North America in the new year. The first volume is set to be released on February 3rd 2004, followed by Volume 2 on April 6th. The third volume has not yet been officially announced but can probably be expected in the summer months.

Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children

First of all, Happy New Year! It’s been a busy one with my wedding and all, and next year should also be quite interesting.

Movie / DVD – After the amazing Final Fantasy, SquareSoft has decided to produce a second movie, this time a straight-to-video release. Instead of creating a whole new world, they are going back to the world of the Final Fantasy VII game (my favorite one so far) to follow the adventures of Cloud Strife two years after the climax of the game. The movie will be called Final Fantasy VII: Advent Children and a trailer is already available on their web site (in japanese).

I did not post for a few weeks since I was away on a two-week business trip to France, giving some courses at customer sites. I’m now back in town.

I also just got myself a copy of Dave Matthews Band – The Central Park Concert on DVD. It’s a really great DVD that they’ve produced. The editing is much better than on their previous title.

Daniel Belanger

Fans of Daniel Belanger will be pleased to learn that he has just released a new CD. Entitled Deflaboxe, this new album is not traditionnal songs. Instead, it is ten music pieces where he reads poems about boxing. He was working on this before releasing Rever Mieux but then decided to release a more pop album. I am glad he decided to go back. The music is an interested blend of electronic and sampling.

New Barenaked Ladies CD

I have finally found a copy of the new Barenaked Ladies CD with bonus DVD. Most stores in Montreal only carried the CD-only version. I ended up having to order at FutureShop.ca. The acoustic tracks and videos on the DVD are excellent and make it worth getting this special edition. So if you’re a big fan, make sure you pick up this special edition.

Guano Apes Live CD/DVD package

I have just received a copy of the new Guano Apes Live CD/DVD package. This album was released two weeks ago in Germany. There is a standard edition with an audio CD, and a limited edition, for just a few dollars more, with a DVD of the same concert. Both contain 20 tracks, with only 2 or 3 tracks being different between the two editions. For fans outside of Europe, you’ll be glad to know that the DVD is Region 0, so it will play in any DVD player. It is encoded in PAL, however, so you still need a player that can properly read PAL-encoded titles.

As well, they have put a small tutorial on how to order the two-disc set from the German Amazon web site. Quite a nice touch recognizing all their fans.

New Dave Matthews Band DVD

The Dave Matthews Band is releasing yet another concert on DVD. This time, it is their outdoor concert presented in New York’s Central Park in September. There is no track listing available yet, but the DVD will actually contain two discs, while the CD version will have 3 CDs. So there should be quite a lot of music in there. The release date is November 18th.

Great Big Sea DVD

Great Big Sea will soon be releasing their first concert DVD. Simply titled “Great Big DVD”, it will contain 78 minutes of live songs, 13 video clips, a 28-minute on-tour documentary and a few other small things.

New Barenaked Ladies CD

There is a brief update concerning the Barenaked Ladies disc that is coming up on October 21. The special Limited Edition will contain the CD plus a DVD of the follwoing contents:

* The album available in hi resolution Stereo and 5.1 Surround mixes
* A non-album track mixed in 5.1 surround
* 3 Studio video clips
* 11 song acoustic sessions from the album. Can be accessed as video w/ dialogue as well as audio only.

This will be an amazing edition of great new Barenaked Ladies music.

Coldplay Live

Coldplay is releasing a Live DVD, shot in Sydney, on November 4th. The DVD will contain most of their popular songs to date.
